The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating an incident in which a wanted subject died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Dixon County Tuesday night.

At approximately 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, NSP and the Dixon County Sheriff’s Office were attempting to locate the subject of multiple arrest warrants. Authorities believed the subject, identified as Andrew Chase, 36, was at his residence at 86598 Highway 9, near Allen, Nebraska.

Troopers made several attempts to contact Chase and have him exit the residence, with no response. Approximately two hours later, a trooper observed Chase exit the residence and walk around the property carrying a long gun, hiding in various locations. Chase was legally prohibited from possessing a firearm. The NSP SWAT Team was activated to handle the situation.

As the NSP SWAT Team traveled to the scene, Chase was observed reentering the home. Continued attempts were made to have Chase exit the home voluntarily. A search warrant was obtained for the residence.

After a period of 45 minutes without contact, SWAT Troopers made entry into the home. At approximately 8:50 p.m., an NSP K9 was able to locate Chase hiding inside a room on the second floor of the residence. Troopers then heard a single gunshot come from inside the room. The SWAT team then found Chase inside the room with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel were already on scene and attempted life saving measures. Chase was pronounced deceased at the scene.

No law enforcement officers discharged a weapon during this incident and no other injuries were reported. In accordance with Nebraska statute, a grand jury investigation will be held in Dixon County.
