Farm-to-table tours and dinner celebrates local farms and ranches McCook, Neb., September 10, 2021 – To explore and celebrate the local flavors of McCook, Heritage Acres is hosting an afternoon of farm tours, and an evening featuring food and drinks made from seasonal local produce and products grown by community farmers and ranchers on Friday September 24th, 2021. The tours and dinner offer participants a look into the diversity and quality of produce and livestock being raised in the area. From shrimp, to beef, flowers to fresh apples, southwest Nebraska is full of unique and delicious food raised by local people, for local people. “There are so many hardworking farm families and businesses out here. And they offer so much good food.” said event organizer Paula Sandberg of Heritage Acres. “It’s surprising and exciting how much amazing food is being grown right here.” Heritage Acres is a family farm in Stratton selling beef, pork, poultry, and eggs directly to consumers. In 2020 as a convenient way for people get a wider array of local food, Heritage Acres added products from area growers and ranchers to their online store. Local produce, mushrooms, wheat, baked goods, and meat are just some of the items available through the online store. Customers order online and pick up their orders at a weekly “drive-through” farmers’ market in McCook. The September 24th farm tours and dinner feature local producers that participate in the Heritage Acres online store. Farm tours will feature stops at three diverse local food businesses - Common Scents Nursery, Hillside Blooms and Saltwater Hills Shrimp Co. During the tours, participants hear from the owners about what it takes to grow their unique products, how they got started, and why they are passionate about what they do. In the evening, a farm-to-table cocktail hour and dinner will be served. Food and drinks will feature local ingredients, prepared by Chef Martha Callahan. The cocktail hour and appetizers will be held in the 6th floor project, an art exhibition and creative space with 360-degree views of McCook, housed in the historic Keystone building, A three-course dinner will be served at the Fellowship Hall, United Methodist Church.
