Weekend softball games for MCC cancelled

McCook Community College Softball

Because of a number of teams dropping out of this weekend’s scheduled Tehoma Health Foundation Winter Blast softball tournament in Denison, Texas, the McCook Community College Softball will not be making the trip.

MCC Softball Coach Mike Mendenhall said, as some of the 19 teams began dropping out, MCC’s four scheduled games on Friday and Saturday were reduced to just two. The final proposed game would have been played late Saturday so officials decided not to travel that far.

Mendenhall said while he and the team were looking forward to the challenge of playing three ranked teams, the No. 13 Lady Indians will shift their focus on next weekend’s trip to Branson, Mo. for the Branson Turf’s Up Classic and will face No. 15 Crowder on Feb. 20. These two teams faced last May in the opening game of the College World Series in Yuma, Ariz. With Crowder winning 4.2.

Next-weekend’s tournament also includes games with Missouri State West Plains, Southwest Community College and Northern Oklahoma College-Enid.

MCC will play their home-opener Feb. 24 against Seward County Community College. First pitch of that doubleheader is set for 2 p.m. at the Jaycees Sports Complex.
