Visitors urged to use caution during storm cleanup at Lake Mac

Nebraska Game and Parks

Visitors to Lake McConaughy and Lake Ogallala state recreation areas should use caution as staff is cleaning up following a storm that passed through the night of June 30.

Both parks remain open as staff remove downed tree limbs and other storm debris from campgrounds, beaches, roadways and other public use areas. Visitors should be alert for any debris or hazards during the cleanup.

The storm brought strong winds, rain, and local flooding that resulted in damage throughout portions of both park areas.

Guests may find some park roads with standing water or other areas of high water.

Boat docks shifted during the storm and will be adjusted.

The storm caused erosion in some areas of the shoreline. Because of that, beach visitors should be cautious near the water. Campers parked along the beach should be aware of changing shoreline conditions and use caution when selecting parking locations.
