Platte Institute Unveils Legislative Issue Guide for the 109th Nebraska Legislature

OMAHA, NE — The Platte Institute has released its comprehensive Legislative Issue Guide for the 109th Nebraska Legislature, offering a roadmap for state policymakers to advance reforms that reduce barriers to economic growth and opportunity across Nebraska. 

The guide was crafted to provide actionable policy insights across three major areas: taxes, regulations, and transparency and good governance. It reflects public policy best practices aimed at ensuring Nebraska remains competitive and prosperous in an era of interstate economic competition. 

“Our Legislative Issue Guide is more than just a resource—it’s a call to action,” said Jim Vokal, CEO of the Platte Institute. “With this guide, policymakers have a toolkit to create a Nebraska where people can thrive, businesses can grow, and opportunity is accessible to all.” 

Key topics addressed in the guide include: 
-Tax Reform: Recommendations to reduce Nebraska’s high property tax burden, broaden the sales tax base, and maintain the state’s competitive edge with lower income tax rates. 
-Regulatory Reform: Proposals such as regulatory sunset provisions, budgeting mechanisms, and expanding regulatory sandboxes to foster innovation and growth. 
-Transparency and Governance: Strategies to strengthen Truth in Taxation laws, reduce dependency on federal funds, and enhance public accountability through better transparency standards. 
-The release of this session’s guide is especially timely as Nebraska lawmakers prepare to address critical issues such as property tax relief, workforce development, and the future of federal aid dependency.
