No. 1 Huskers' Block Party Sinks FGCU on Sunday
No. 1 Nebraska picked up a 3-1 (25-10, 25-17, 25-27, 25-14) victory against FGCU on Sunday afternoon at John Cook Arena at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
With Sunday’s win, the Huskers are off to a 10-0 start for the 17th time in program history.
Nebraska hit .333 as a team in the four-set victory, while FGCU (3-7) was limited to .068 hitting on the afternoon.
The Huskers totaled eight service aces on Sunday afternoon, moving the season total to 70 in 2026. Nebraska’s 70 aces are the most from the Big Red through the first 10 games to start a season since at least 2000.
Defensively, the Husker defense posted a dominant 16-4 advantage in blocks, which are the most blocks from the Big Red since recording 20 at Maryland in 2024.
Teraya Sigler paced the Husker offense with a season-high 13 kills, followed by Harper Murray with 11 kills on .556 hitting.
Ryan Hunter tallied a career-high seven kills and three blocks, while Manaia Ogbechie added five kills and career-high totals of four aces and eight blocks.
Campbell Flynn recorded 27 assists, seven digs, four kills and three blocks. Olivia Mauch picked up her first career double-double with 17 digs and 10 assists.
Set 1: Nebraska took the opening set comfortably with a 25-10 victory to start the day. The Huskers and Eagles swapped points to a 9-7 lead for the Big Red before NU unleashed a season-best run of 12 consecutive points to grab a 21-7 cushion. The 12-0 run is Nebraska’s third run of the season with at least 10 straight points scored. The Husker totaled 14 kills on .440 hitting in the set while stifling the Eagles to a -.097 hitting percentage.
Set 2: The Huskers raced out to a 9-3 lead with a 5-0 run, capped off by a block assist by Flynn and Ogbechie. FGCU fought back within 13-10 before Nebraska rattled off three straight points from kills by Keoni Williams and Sigler and an FGCU error to stretch the advantage to 16-10. The Big Red put an end to the second set after a pair of FGCU errors and a block assist by Ogbechie and Gabby DiVita to record a 25-17 win.
Set 3: The Eagles led 15-13 before a 4-0 run from the Huskers had Nebraska out front 17-15 after an ace by Ogbechie. FGCU scored eight points in 10-point span to reach set point with a 24-20 lead. The Huskers responded with a 5-0 run of their own to take a 25-24 lead after a block by Ogbechie. The Eagles scored the next three points to claim the third set with a 27-25 victory and send the match to a fourth set.
Set 4: Nebraska began a set with a 9-3 lead for the second time in the match after Flynn’s kill. The Eagles scored four consecutive points to trim NU’s lead down to 11-9. Kills from Hunter, Murray and a block assist by Ogbechie and Murray had the Huskers ahead 17-10. Nebraska enlarged its lead to 23-13 after an FGCU error, while Hunter put an end to Sunday’s match with her seventh kill of the afternoon to give the Huskers a 25-14 win.
No. 1 Nebraska returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 23, as the Huskers welcome Missouri to John Cook Arena at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. First serve between the Huskers and Tigers is set for 6 p.m. on BTN.
