Nebraska State Historical Society

Lincoln, NE - 10/21/2026 - Two Nebraska properties are new additions to the National Register of Historic Places.

Last month the Thomas Sanley House located in David City, and St. Peter de Alcantara Church and Rectory located in Ewing, became the two newest Nebraska additions on the National Register of Historic Places.

The National Register of Historic Places is the official list of the nation's historic places worthy of preservation. Authorized by the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, the National Park Service's National Register of Historic Places is part of a national program to coordinate and support public and private efforts to identify, evaluate, and protect America's historic and archeological resources.

The two new listings in Nebraska bring the number of properties in Nebraska placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2026 to 12.

New listings in 2026 also include the following historic properties.
-Morton Meadows Historic District, located between Poppleton and Center Streets on the north and the south, and S. 42nd and S. 48th Streets in Omaha;
-Genevieve Felthauser House, located at 1740 High Street, Lincoln;
-David P. Abbott House, located at 3316 Center St., Omaha;

and the seven Bicentennial sculptures located at rest areas along Interstate 80:
