Minden Opera House Welcomes Artist Taylor Majerus
(Minden, Nebraska) The Minden Opera House Gallery, located within the restored Minden Opera House in downtown Minden, rotates artists every two months. Starting July 1, it will feature the artwork of Taylor M. Majerus. For this particular show, Majerus has chosen to focus on the people, places and things found in Minden, titling the show, “A Tribute to My New Hometown.”
Majerus says, “The works presented in this exhibit are unique expressions and reflections of the community I now call my home. From the courthouse square on Christmas Eve to Pioneer Village, there are so many iconic images that come to my mind when someone asks, “So, where are you from?”
The truth is, I am not from Minden, but Minden called me home. My husband and I were attracted to the small town that sat just minutes from a bustling city. We didn’t know what a whippet was, but we took a chance on the idea, and from there, our love for Minden and our family grew.
So many individuals in this community, young and old, have made a tremendous imprint on my heart. I feel warmth and love for myself and my family on every street corner.
It is with absolute joy that I present to you A Tribute to My New Hometown, a collection of people, places, and things found in Minden, Nebraska.”
Taylor M. Majerus is an artist, mother, instructor, and community member, among many other titles. During her time at the University of Nebraska Kearney, where she obtained a BA in Studio Art in 2013, she focused primarily on sculpture, learning the ancient lost wax process of bronze casting, but also spent endless hours drawing, painting, and learning about art history. She attributes much of her patience and love for art, her attention to detail, and willingness to try new mediums to her dedicated professors at UNK.
Taylor derives much of her subject matter from her own core memories and personal life experiences. However, over the past 10 years, she has created over 100 commissioned pencil drawings for patrons across the state of Nebraska, and into Kansas, Iowa, Oklahoma, Arizona, and Colorado.
The Minden Opera House will be hosting an Artist Reception for Majerus on Friday, July 12 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. Complimentary refreshments will be served. Her mixed media show will be on display July – August Tuesday – Friday from 10 am – 5 pm or by appointment.
