FINAL SCORE: McCOOK __4__ ADAMS CENTRAL__0__
Comments from Head Coach Matt Wiemers: The regular season came to a close on a 40 MPH warm afternoon in Hastings. I am proud of the girls for adjusting their game to the tough weather conditions and picking up a sweep 4-0 over a pretty good Adams Central team on their home courts.
Abby totally dominated her opponent, winning in striaght sets 6-0, 6-1. Abby was very consistent with her ground strokes and that led to numerous easy points. She definately brought her game today. With the win, Abby improves her season record to 30-6 entering the state tournament.
Abi also took care of business, winning in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. Abi did a nice job of approaching the net when she needed to and finishing points. She also did a nice job of using drops shots to keep her opponent off balance. Abi pushes her season record to 35-5.
Elizabeth and Cassidy picked up a hard fought win. Aside for them cruising through the second set, the match was extremely close. They dropped set one in a tie breaker, after battling back from being down 1-4. In the third set they jumped out to a early lead, but Adams Central fought back to close the lead at 6-5. The girls then caught fire and opened up the lead to 10-7. It was good for the girls to get a tough match. Adams Central played very well.
Madison and Kenadi won in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. They got down early 0-3, but really settled in and took the opening set. In set two, the girls did a super job of adjusting to the wind and remained consistent with their play. Kenadi served well and that lead to some easy points for Madi at the net. They played solid team tennis. With the win the girls improve to 24-9 entering the state meet.
We will have a full week of practice next week, as state will not be played until the Tuesday-Wednesday after Memorial Day. This will give some valuable time to really focus in and work on us. Seedings will be released next Tuesday, so we will not know our opening opponents until after practice Tuesday.
