McCook Fire Department Has Issued an Immediate Burn Ban
Due to extremely dry conditions, lack of recent precipitation, and increased risk of wildfires, the McCook Fire Department has issued an immediate ban on all open burning. This ban takes effect today, March 13th, and will remain in effect until significant, measurable moisture is received and the fire risk has decreased. Burn Ban Details: • Prohibited: All outdoor burning, including bonfires, trash burning, brush piles, and debris disposal. • Burn Barrels: Residents are strongly encouraged to avoid the use of burning barrels during this period, as dry vegetation makes it easy for sparks to escape. "Conditions are dangerously high for fires to spread rapidly," said Fire Chief Marc Harpham. "We are asking all residents to comply with this ban to keep our community safe." Violation of this ban may result in citations or fines. McCook residents are urged to report any unattended fires immediately.
