MCC softball moves rainout games to Tuesday

MCC Schedule Change

With weather postponing MCC’s home softball games against North Platte Sunday, the teams will finish that four-game series Tuesday at the Jaycees Sports Complex starting at 1 p.m.

The Lady Indians won the first two games of the series Thursday in North Platte 16-5 and 12-0.

MCC enters the final week of regular-season play in first place in the Region IX standings, 24-2 and 43-7 overall. North Platte is 1-25 and 3-33.

The Indians are one game away from clinching the Region IX regular season championship. That would mean MCC would host the Region IX tournament starting May 6 at the Jaycees Sports Complex.

The top six teams among the nine in Region IX qualify for the double-elimination tournament. While the final seedings are not yet set, with one weekend left of the regular season, the six qualifying teams have been determined and will be: McCook (24-2), Southeast CC (21-7), Northeastern JC (20-8), Luna (16-12), Lamar (15-13) and Western Nebraska (13-15). The three teams who didn’t qualify for the tournament are Trinidad State, Otero and North Platte.

After the North Platte games, MCC will finish the schedule Saturday and Sunday at home against eighth-place Otero (5-21, 6-38). Sophomore day will be Saturday prior to the 1 p.m. start. Sunday’s games start at 11 a.m.

With six regular-season games remaining, The Lady Indians have the chance to set the record for regular season wins, topping last year’s mark of 45.
