MCC’s Phamotse wins ‘Player of the Week’ honors

McCook Community College freshman Relebohile Phamotse (Maseru, Lesotho) has been named the Region IX South offensive player of the week for the week of Sept. 14-20.

In weekend matches at Trinidad and La Junta, Colo. to start the Region IX season, the 6-1 middle/outside hitter averaged 4.38 kills per set and hit .373.

In a 3-2 win against Trinidad, she had 21 kills, two solo blocks and four service aces. Against Otero in a 3-0 sweep, Phamotse was credited with 14 kills, one assist block and two aces.

Through Tuesday’s games, she is leading all Region IX South hitters with a .326 hitting percentage., is fourth with 3.04 kills per set.

MCC (3-0 in Region IX play) will be home Friday to host Lamar at 6 p.m. and host Southeast Community College Saturday at 1 p.m.
