MCC players receive weekly Region IX honors


A pair of McCook Community College baseball players have won this week’s top Region IX honors.

Sophomore Blake Dale was named the region’s player of the week and Cory Wouters was named the region’s top pitcher. This is the second time each player has earned top player nods with Wouters first one coming for his offensive output.

In MCC’s 4-0 sweep over Trinidad State, Dale had 11 hits in 21 at bats, a .524 average with a double four home runs and 15 RBIS, including the game-winner in MCC’s 5-4 win in extra innings.

Dale, of Riverton, Wyo. is tied for third in the Empire League with 10 home runs on the season and is seventh in RBIs with 42. He is batting .344 for the season. He received player of the week honors March 18-24.

Wouters earned top pitching honors with his 11-0 shutout over Trinidad. The left-hander picked up a seven-inning complete game, allowing five singles, one walk and 11 strikeouts.

Wouters, of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, is fourth in the league with 46 strikeouts in 30 innings pitched. He is 2-4 on the season with a 7.12 ERA. The two-way player is 10th in batting average at .386 with four homers and 29 RBIs. He received player of the week honors in the season’s second week of the season Feb. 5-11.
