MCC names Grant Case Men’s Golf Coach

Grant Case was introduced today as the new men's golf coach at McCook Community College.

Case – who has family ties to McCook – was introduced by Athletic Director Jon Olsen at a news conference Thursday afternoon at the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center.

Case comes from the golf staff at Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids Iowa where he played for five years (2018-2023). He is a native of York, Neb. and has undergraduate degrees in marketing and sports management along with his master's in management.

For the past year he was assistant golf coach at Mount Mercy and working for Austad's Golf in Cedar Rapids. He spent the summer of 2022 as a golf operations intern with Wild Horse Golf Club in Gothenburg and from 2016-2021 at the York Country Club in York.

"I think even when I was golfing in high school and collegiately, coaching was always something I wanted to do and am grateful for this opportunity," Case said.

In addition to seeing success on the golf course he feels additional responsibility for imparting life lessons as well.

MCC Athletic Director Jon Olsen said as the college was looking at coaching candidates, Case impressed him on several levels.

"He's young with a lot of enthusiasm for the sport, understands the responsibilities for a student-athlete and he's got a connection with the culture here," said Olsen.

Case knows McCook and Heritage Hills Golf Course, because his parents Todd and Carri Case moved from McCook to York where he spent most of his childhood. His McCook family includes his grandparents Perry and Vicky Case.

He's looking forward to continuing the tradition of MCC Golf being a consistent presence at the NJCAA National Tournament.

Case takes over for Tyler Loop, who stepped down to spend more time with family. Loop, a former MCC golfer went on to coach the team for 11 years and helped the team to five national tournament appearances between 2018 and 2023, including a No. 16 place finish in 2023 and a No. 13 ranking in the final regular-season rankings.

MCC's new coach inherits a team of five returning players including Andrew Brown (Wollongong, Australia) and Matt Grimonprez (Villenuave-d'ascq, France) who both qualified for the NJCAA National Tournament in May as freshman. Other returners include Ross Donachie (Narin, Scotland), Chance Gambini (Las Vegas) and Zachary Woods (Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia). Incoming freshmen include Cole Graham of McCook, Xander Sellman of Iola, Kan. and Thatcher Ommert, Montgomery, Texas.

The team will open the season Sept. 5 in Riverton Wyo. and will play two-day Region IX tournaments every Thursday and Friday through Oct. 10-11 when MCC will host the region field at Heritage Hills for the MCC Invite.

"We have a couple weeks to get everyone here, get in some practices and then get going and compete," Case said.
