MCC golfers tie for fourth at NJC meet
STERLING, Colo. –The McCook Community College golf team finished in a three-way tie for fourth place at the Northeastern Junior College meet. The tournament was reduced to Thursday’s round because the second day of action at Riverview Golf Course was cancelled.
Eastern Wyoming claimed team honors with a two-under par 286 – four shots better than Central Wyoming.
MCC shot an 11-over 299 and tied with Northeastern Junior College and the Eastern Wyoming B team.
“I was really pleased with what I saw out of everyone on Thursday. Through 13 holes we were tied for the lead with Central and Eastern Wyoming, who have shown themselves to be the best teams in our region,” said MCC Coach Grant Case. “For us to be able to hang in there with them, before our couple rough holes which dropped us to fourth, is a really good sign for the rest of our season.”
Freshman Louis Yin (Tainan, Taiwan), posted MCC’s best score with a one-over 73.
Jeb Kastens (freshman Rawlins County HS) and Joackym Mahy (freshman, Andenne, Belgium) were both two-over with scores of 74s.
Sophomore Cole Graham (McCook) shot a six-over par 78 and freshman Braiden Portie (Arvada, Colo.) posted an 82. Freshman Jalen Collicott (McCook) competed as an individual and carded an 83.
The Indians will take next week off and will play April 16-17 at the Central Wyoming tournament in Riverton, Wyo.
“Having this next week off is a great opportunity for everyone to zone in on exactly where the struggles are and come out very sharp and ready to compete in Riverton,” said Case.
