MCC golfers fourth in first spring meet
La JUNTA, Colo. –The McCook Community College golf team finished in fourth place at the first spring meet of the season in Colorado Thursday and Friday. The first round was held Thursday at Spreading Antlers Course in Lamar with the final round Friday at the La Junta Golf Course in La Junta, Colo.
“It was great to get back into tournament play this week, with unusually great weather,” said MCC Coach Grant Case. “We didn’t perform like we wanted or expected to this week but have a much clearer idea of what specific things we need to clean up in order to be successful next week and moving forward.”
Eastern Wyoming won the tournament with a three-over 563. Lamar was second, 22 shots back. Northeastern Junior College third and MCC was fourth, 50 shots back with a two-day score of 610.
Freshman Tzu-Hsun (Louis) Yin (Tainan, Taiwan) led the team Thursday and was tied for third overall with three other golfers who all had a first-round score of 71, (one over par) at the course in Lamar. He came back to shoot a 70 Friday at La Junta to finish in third by himself with a one-over 138 for the tournament. He was three shots back of the co-leaders.
“Louis was able to play at a very high level this week and I’m looking forward seeing him develop the remainder of the season,” said Case.
Freshman Joackym Mahy (Andenne, Belgium) had rounds of 72 and 84 to finish 20th overall.
Freshman Braiden Portie (Arvada, Colo.) shot rounds of 76 and 83 to finish at 19 over par. He was tied with teammate Jeb Kastens (Atwood, Kan.) who had rounds of 81 and 78.
Sophomore Cole Graham (McCook) had rounds of 81 and 70 to finish with a 20-over, 160.
