Nebraska softball freshman Alexis Jensen is one of three candidates left for the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Freshman of the Year Award, the organization announced on Thursday.

Jensen joins Oklahoma’s Kai Minor and Kendall Wells as the top three freshmen. The winner of the award will be announced on Tuesday, May 26.

The Gretna, Neb., native has helped Nebraska to its second consecutive NCAA Super Regional and has also aided NU to hosting its first Super Regional this weekend. She leads all freshmen with 210 strikeouts and 24 wins, which also ties the Huskers’ single-season freshman Ks and wins records.

Jensen ranks in the top 10 nationally in strikeout-to-walk ratio (fourth), strikeouts per seven innings (sixth) and wins (seventh). In the circle, she is 24-2 with a 2.45 ERA. She has struck out 210 batters and only walked 34. Her opponents are averaging .205 at the plate.

The freshman adds a .329 batting average with six homers and four doubles, along with 17 RBI, at the plate.
