Jensen Earns Three Freshman of the Week Honors

Nebraska softball two-way star Alexis Jensen was named the National Freshman of the Week by Softball America, D1 Softball and Softball on Sports Illustrated, the organizations announced Tuesday.

 

Jensen went 2-0 in the circle last weekend and helped the then-No. 9 Huskers to a series win over then-No. 7 UCLA. In her two appearances, she held the Bruins, who came into the contest averaging 11.7 runs per game, to one run on Friday and four on Sunday. She totaled 11 strikeouts across 11.0 innings pitched over the course of the series.

 

At the plate, Jensen knocked a 273-foot, two-run homer in the second inning on Sunday to help clinch the 8-4 win for the Big Red.

 

The Gretna, Neb., native is now a three-time Softball on Sports Illustrated Freshman of the Week. She was also named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week earlier this season.

 

Jensen and the rest of the Huskers are set to take on the Creighton Bluejays tonight at 5 p.m. (CT). The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and can be heard across the Huskers Radio Network.
