NORTH PLATTE – The McCook Community College golf team finished seventh out of eight teams in the two- day North Platte Community College tournament which ended Friday at Rivers Edge Golf Course.
Eastern Wyoming won the tournament with a one-over 573 over two days. Lamar was second, 40 shots back of the Lancers. Otero came from eighth place Thursday to finish third with a 626, 13 strokes behind Lamar.
The Indians were in seventh place tied with North Platte after a first-round 317 and shot a 321 Friday which was 16 shots better than the hosts.
“This was a pretty tough event for everyone this week, no one really had their best stuff,” said MCC Coach Grant Case. “The big numbers were a common theme for everyone which makes posting a solid score difficult.”
Freshman Freddie Wilson, (Basingstoke, England) posted MCC’s low round Thursday with a four-over par 75 and followed that with a 78 Friday to give him a top 10 finish with a 10-over 153. William Clayton (freshman, West Malling, England) shot rounds of 80 and 78 to finish with a 15-over 158
Sophomore Louis Yin (Tainan, Taiwan) was third among MCC players with a 160, with rounds of 82 and 78. Trenton Raile (freshman, McCook) had rounds of 81 and 80 to finish a shot back of Yin at 161. Manus Crichton-Coote (freshman, Bexhill-On-Sea, England) was one shot behind Raile with a 161. He carded rounds of 80 and 82.
Freshman Ignacio Heslop, (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and sophomore Jeb Kastens (Atwood, Kan.) both finished the tournament at 163. Sophomore Joackym Mahy (Andenne, Belgium) carded a 171 and sophomore Braiden Portie (Arvada, Colo.) had a 177.
“Even though we’re on a shorter week, with us leaving for Riverton Wednesday, there’s still plenty to clean up and improve on so we’re ready to compete next week,” said Case.
MCC will be in Riverton, Wyo. Sept. 18-19 at the Central Wyoming Tournament held at the Riverton Country Club. The Indians will be home Sept. 24-25 to host the MCC tournament at Heritage Hills Golf Course.
