Huskers Wrap Up U.S. Olympic Trials

Nine current Nebraska track and field athletes competed at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials June 21-30 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

On the first day of competition, Dash Sirmon qualified for the javelin final with a 248-6 (75.74m) in the prelim. From Walla Walla, Wash., Sirmon placed fourth in the final with a distance of 252-0 (76.83m). Kevin Shubert placed 21st in the shot put with a 61-5 1/2 (18.73m) and Ashley McElmurry went 42-7 (12.98m) in the triple jump to place 16th.

Jenna Rogers cleared two heights on her first attempts to book a spot in the high jump final on June 24. On Monday night's final, Rogers cleared the bar at a school record 6-3 1/4 (1.91m) to tie for third. Darius Luff cruised to a 13.33 in the 110m hurdles first round, earning his spot in the semifinal. The reigning national champion from Lincoln, Neb. closed his season placing 14th in the semifinal with a 13.37.

Garrett Kaalund crossed the line in 20.28 during the 200m first round, finishing fourth to earn a spot in the semifinal. In the high jump prelim, Tyus Wilson and former Husker Mayson Conner each claimed spots in the final. Wilson, the NCAA Championship silver medalist, placed third with a height of 7-4 1/4 (2.24m), while Conner finished eighth with a 7-1 (2.16m).

Maddie Harris went 173-3 (52.81m) on her second javelin attempt in the prelims. On Sunday night, she placed fifth in the final, launching a 184-5 (56.21m). Micaylon Moore competed in the triple jump prelim, leaping 51-5 1/2 (15.68m) to take 15th.

The 2024 Husker Olympians at this point are Rhema Otabor (Bahamas), Axelina Johansson (Sweden) and Mine De Klerk (South Africa).
