STILLWATER, Okla. -- A 19-2 run to close the first half helped No. 15 Creighton men's basketball earn a 79-65  win at Oklahoma State on Thursday evening inside historic Gallagher-Iba Arena. The game was part of the fifth rendition of the BIG EAST - Big 12 Battle.

After falling behind 12-6 early, Steven Ashworth keyed a 14-2 run and helped the Bluejays gain the momentum and build a 20-14 lead. Ashworth had 11 of those points, sinking a pair of three-pointers as well as an old-fashioned three-point play. OSU countered with the next seven points to tie the score at 23-all.

Creighton pulled away once again with a 17-0 run, that featured seven points by Ryan Kalkbrenner and maintained a 47-29 lead at the break. CU had 14 points from Ashworth and 12 from Kalkbrenner in the opening 20 minutes while also owning a 21-13 lead on the glass. CU shot 16-of-27 before the break (59.3 percent), including 7-of-12 attempts from behind the arc. OSU got 12 points from Javon Small, but the rest of the team made just 8-of-25 field goal attempts. The Pokes missed their final nine field goal attempts of the half over the final 6:36.

The lead hovered between 12 and 17 points for the first 17 minutes of the second half as Creighton held off every OSU rally.

Baylor Scheierman led Creighton with 20 points, while Ashworth (17), Alexander (20) and Kalkbrenner (16) each scored in double-figures. Kalkbrenner snared 12 rebounds to pick up his 12th career double-double.

Small led OSU with 24 points while Eric Dailey Jr. owned 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Creighton returns to the court on Sunday with a 3 p.m. game at Nebraska that will be televised on FS1.
