Bill to Maintain Child Care Subsidy Advances at Legislature
A measure removed from the budget as part of a compromise, advanced independently at the Nebraska Legislature on Monday.
LB 304, the priority bill from senator Wendy DeBoer, would eliminate the sunset provision on the expanded eligibility for the childcare subsidy. This keeps the level at 185 percent of poverty instead of returning to the pre-covid level of 130 percent. District 41 Senator Fred Meyer of St Paul supports the bill.
District 35 Senator Dan Quick of Grand Island voiced his support.
District 38 Senator Dave Murman gave his take on the child care issue.
District 44 Senator Teresa Ibaugh told of a subsidy success story.
A proposed amendment to reduce the level to 160 percent and put in a three year sunset failed. The bill itself, advanced 39-8.
