Ricketts Calls on Biden to Make a Deal on Federal Spending & Debt Ceiling

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts (R-NE) made the following statement at a press conference alongside other Senate Republicans calling on President Joe Biden to come to the negotiating table and make a deal to reign in federal spending and raise the debt ceiling:

“American families know that, at the end of the day, you have to live within your means. Since 2019 our spending is up 54%, and our population is up 1.8%. That's not sustainable.

“We're here today to say we support Speaker McCarthy, the House Republicans, and the bill they passed to get needed spending reforms and raise the debt limit.

“Nobody wants us to default on our debt and we know we have to control our spending. The House Republicans have done their job. The Senate Republicans are supporting them. Now it's time for President Biden to come to the table and start negotiating where we go from here.

“We have divided government. This is about compromise. This is the democratic process. The President needs to step up. I know he didn't fail Civics 101. He knows how this process is supposed to work. So, the President should come to the table and help us negotiate this, so we can continue to do the responsible thing for the American people.”
