McCook YMCA Cycling Class Donates to Anderson Center for Radiation Oncology
McCook, Neb.— Every Saturday morning in October from 9 to 9:45 a.m. the McCook YMCA hosted a “Pink rYde” class. The indoor cycling class was open to YMCA members and non-members as a fundraising event in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Pink clothes were encouraged and honorably named pink ribbons decorated the walls.
This week the contributions were tallied and $1,056 dollars was donated to Community Hospital’s Anderson Center for Radiation Oncology. “These donated funds will purchase cancer care equipment to improve treatment and comfort for our patients, or be used for a variety of patient assistance needs as our patients receive treatments,” said Community Hospital Health Foundation Executive Director, Jessica Bortner. “Radiation treatments are typically five times a week for four to six weeks. That frequency is one more reason why local cancer care services are so important.”
Lori Schmidt, event coordinator and group cycling instructor said, “The event was a way to honor those loved ones who have been struck with the disease, celebrate the survivors, and contribute to our community.”
