MCC freshman Daniel Bannon named region’s ‘Player of the Week’
McCook Community College freshman infielder Daniel Bannon has been named the Region IX (Empire League) Player of the week for March 29-April 4.
Bannon, of Sydney, Australia, who is 5-6 and listed at 156 pounds, batted .592 for the week going 16 of 27 from the plate. His 16 hits included four doubles and four home runs and he scored 15 runs.
He is currently on a 12-game hitting streak and has posted two or more hits in six straight games with an April batting average of .533, his OBP is .791 and he is slugging 1.333. During the four-game series with Otero Saturday and Sunday he hit home runs in three of the four games.
In 35 games for the Indians this season he is batting .464 with nine homers, eight doubles, five triples and 33 RBIs. He ranks second in the nation with 52 runs scored, fourth with 58 hits, fifth with 103 total bases, and 15th overall in batting average. He’s posted a .556 on-base average and is slugging .824,
The Indians went 5-3 in the past week, including winning three of four against Otero.
The McCook Community College baseball will play a makeup game today against Garden City Community College beginning at 2 p.m. This game was postponed Feb. 16, because of weather.
MCC Baseball Coach Jon Olsen also announced the makeup date for another game postponed by weather earlier in the season.
The Indians will play Southeast Community College April 15 in an Empire League, nine-inning game starting at 3 p.m. This game was postponed by weather March 13.
