7th Annual Agronomy Youth Field Day June 27, 2023 in Curtis

Youth and adults from across Nebraska will be attending the 7 th Annual Agronomy Youth Field Day in Curtis on June 27, 2023! This fun educational program is open statewide to ALL youth ages 9-18 along with their parents/adults. Join us by registering online at go.unl.edu/agronomy-youth-field-day by June 20 the . There will be several hands-on activities with 2 different age tracts. Participants will learn how agriculture is changing with precision technology; benefits of cover crops; how to tell if soil is healthy; explore plant growth by dissecting plants; understand importance of weeds & herbicide application technology. Those attending will learn how to scout crops for insects & get to fly a miniature drone. Area Nebraska Extension & Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture Crop & Water Educators/Researchers, Bayer Crop Scientists & the new Nebraska Extension Digital Ag Educator will be teaching the sessions. Lunch will be provided by Ag Valley Coop and water bottles by Farm Credit. Past field day youth participants rated the day “Excellent” and had these comments:
· “I’ve been to workshops before but I’ve never heard anyone explain a corn plant the way that guy did. He
let the kids take apart a corn plant. He explained where an ear of corn comes from on the plant & explained
to the kids that leaves take about 3 days to grow.”
· Other remarks were “I had fun as I learned about drones, soil moisture sensors, stages of crops, and weed
identification & the 1 st corn & genetics of corn.”
· “I learned that drones are useful to agronomists.”
